How will the building be used for Five Star?

This is a  four part answer:

1.  Corporate Offices –  This project will allow Five Star to be able to expand from serving 12 schools, 1,000 students, and training 150 volunteer coaches to serving approx. 35 schools, 3,000 students, and train 450 volunteers.

2.  In Depth student leadership and training – as Five Star has grown we have seen more and more students want to take bigger steps towards living a Five Star life.  These students (many in high school) want to lean in and Five Star wants to be able to provide more individual focused programs for those students.  This facility will provide the space and atmosphere to maximize and enhance our relationships with those students through servant leadership opportunities within the Five Star organization.

3.  A place for volunteer coaches to connect with their students – Although Five Star has no interest in becoming a drop-in center….we have huge interest in providing space for our coaches and students to connect more than just at school events.  Many volunteer coaches want to do extra activities with their team of 5-8 students, but cost is a barrier.  The Five Star Center for Leadership will provide a free space with some great options to connect with students, help them with school work, model our values, watch a movie, have a game night, etc.

4.  Expanded programming – several groups have requested that Five Star provide some type of parent programming.  School buildings are typically difficult for parents to feel comfortable in, especially if they know they aren’t taking full responsibility for their students.  This facility would allow parents a safe, warm, neutral place to learn and engage in the values and leadership training Five Star can offer.  Imagine the impact parents will have on their children as they begin believing  they can change and live with Courage, Respect, Integrity, Responsibility and Sacrifice.

How much will this project cost?

Well, the building was donated.  Lots of labor and materials are being donated.  We believe this to be a $400,000 project, not including the donated building, that we hope to complete with $150,000 in cash donations and the rest in volunteer labor and in-kind gifts of supplies and materials.  We still need lots of cash, in-kind gifts, and labor to accomplish the project on time.

Why do this when the economy is down?

Why not?  We are growing.  More students need to be reached.  Waiting for the perfect time is not in our vocabulary.  We are committed to taking steps forward.  This building will allow us to have more impact and provides the foundation we need to establish a strong dependable base for the future of Five Star.

Are you borrowing money for this project?

Absolutely NOT!  Five Star believes in paying cash for all future expansion.  Many non-profits struggle and put themselves in rough financial shape over debt from capital projects.  We believe in the pay as you go approach.  If money, materials and labor is supplied, we will take steps.  That’s why we need great partners like you to join this effort.  We can do more together than apart.
